Why New Construction and Remodeling Inspections Services?

Government building inspectors are very busy and may have only a few minutes to perform each inspection.  It is a credit to them that they find many major code violations.  But many inspectors will admit that can not find all code violations.  they will also admit that they are not looking for items and issues that are not a code violation but can have a significant negative impact on the cost to operate and maintain the home.

A home inspector will fill this gap in the inspection process.  People building a home or doing major remodeling will hire an home inspector who will help improve the quality of the construction.  A home inspector has the luxury of spending more time on home inspections than government inspectors, thus giving far better results. Also the home inspector will inspect areas such as the attic and roof, where a government inspector will rarely go.

When do I need a Construction or Remodel Inspection?

A Home inspection is needed at two critical points:

The first and most critical inspection is just before the insulation and dry wall is installed. This inspection is the most important inspection a home will ever have. At this time an inspector can see many important components of the home that will later be covered by finish materials and never be seen again.

The second critical point is at the end of construction when the home inspector can now see and test important systems in the home.

Home inspectors are increasingly common on construction sites.  While some contractors welcome home inspectors, many do not.  If you decide to use a home inspector it is wise to discuss this with the contractor before signing the contract. It is also wise to agree in writing how the contractor will work with the home inspector.
